Who am I?

Who am I and what am I doing with my life? I'm still trying to figure that out.

I am nineteen years old, or will be, at least for another two months and 2 days.

I am a college sophomore in the last stretch of her winter quarter who is avoiding her Econ textbook in lieu of something more interesting (like updating this "fashion" blog that has been lying here for ages.

I am a girl whose mother has purchased most of her clothes for her entire life and entirely lacking a sense of personal style by way of clothing, but very creative when it comes to accessorizing (although, I have to admit that my mom bought most of my jewelry and purses too- she has good taste! I put everything together though)

I am someone living near the city of Chicago (well, I count Evanston as part of Chicago anyway).

I am someone who wants desperately to spend her sophomore summer in the Big Apple, so I spend hours looking at places like Roomorama and CouchSurfing and sending out hundreds of resumes.

I am staring at Lake Michigan, which is gorgeously blue today.

I love going to the Periodicals section of my university library (where I work) and read every single article in Glimmer Train, Writer's Digest, Pourquoi Pas?, and the London Times.

More later.

the blog table of contents

Here's the breakdown of how my blog will be organized:

1) Observations: These are personal reflections on trends I've noticed in pop culture in clothing, advertisement, fiction, you name it.

2) Almanac: facts from fashion history that I find interesting and that you might not have heard of before.

3) City Spotlight: I will choose a random city from around the world and highlight fashion finds, in a range of prices.

4) Randomosity: Probably the heading I'll be using most often. Whether I'm comparing the sunglasses Eloise wears to those of Audrey Hepburn's, analyzing doll fashion, or wondering whether I can buy all of the stuff at Modcloth on the money I earn doing surveys for graduate students at my university, I'm sure I'll be using this label a lot!

5) Characters: Picking apart the fashion of a fictional character and where you can find similar clothing!

I'm sure I'll be adding more things here in the future.

there's something there, something new

Hey everyone! My name is Priyanka, I'm 19 years old, and, well, this is my new fashion blog. Among other things.

I just started working in the Periodicals section of my university's library, and seeing as we get the London Times and London Fashion Week just ended recently, there have been some terrific editorials and photographs and spreads that completely fascinate me. Add to that a fashion illustration journal that we receive, two scholarly journals on fashion, and a Yahoo! article on Tavi (who is great) I just couldn't resist it anymore. I just had to make my own blog- there's too much AMAZING information I'm receiving not to interpret and share it myself!

Why is it called Peacoats and Princesses? To be honest, I don't actually have a reason for it. The name just popped into my head. It might be because yesterday I was looking up children's books like The Paperbag Princess, which I've never actually read, but which looks fascinating. And my friend Arianna has this American Eagle peacoat:

(I kind of want it)

I'm not entirely sure how the two got mixed together, but as I was sitting at my desk and trying to think of a clever name for a blog, this just popped out of my head. Actually, a lot of random combinations of things pop into my head all the time. Like Eloise at the Plaza and Holly Golightly (the Audrey version, not the novella- I've never read it). Can't think of much that connects them except the fact that they both live in NYC, wear black and white, and are totally fabulous in their own way.

But yeah. There will definitely be more where this came from. Hopefully I'll have some readers soon as well!
